Schedule

Schedule is divided into two main parts.

Remote Briefing

(from the 8th to the 21st of April)

Tasks to be carried out by each group over the remote briefing:
_ Read the suggested texts
_ Research different types of textile to be used during the workshop [each group should collect a series of samples from companies and shops]
_ Research case studies and relevant information about textile manufacturing and post them on the blog
_ Imagine some possible morphologies for the components that will be tested during the first week of the workshop
_ Assemble the apparatus for the testing of textile components [references are provided on the blog]. Each group should have an apparatus ready by the beginning of the workshop
_ Test some possibilities for the cutting of fabric. There are few techniques and tools that can be used, it’s important that everyone finds the one he is more confident with [links and explanations are provided in this document and on the blog]
_ Get strted with Grasshopper [Rhino plugin] through the exercises we will provide you with

Materials provided:
+ Reading list
+ Grasshopper exercises
+ Case studies

Workshop

(from the 22nd of April to the 10th of May)

// Week 1
22.04
1st Seminar – Workshop introduction and textile analysis
_ Presentation of the brief in detail
_ Short introduction to Grasshopper and relevance in our research
_ Review of the research done by each group during the remote briefing

Tasks to be carried out by each group over the week:
_ Produce a series of different components using textiles with different properties/behaviour
_ Test the components behaviour in the apparatus
_ Create variations for each single component designed
_ Simulate the behaviour of each components using Grasshopper
_ Record the tests using pictures and diagrams
_ Post [daily!!!] your advancements on the blog and record them in your logbook
_ Be ready to present your research and a selection of the best components during the second seminar

// Week 2
29.04 or 30.04 [tbc]
2nd Seminar – Components evaluation and connectivity tests
_ Presentation of the components and related researches
_ Discussion, evaluation and selection of few components to be carried forward
_ Introduction to the design of a three-dimensional “body” through the connection of designed textile modules
_ Connectivity tests

Tasks to be carried out by each group over the week:
_ Test different assemblages of modules [physically and digitally]
_ Research and test different ways of connection for the components
_ Understand how global behaviour changes through multiplying components
_ Gain in depth knowledge of the digital simulation
_ Think about final potential outcomes in terms of scale, functions etc…
_ Prepare some sketches for your final three dimensional structure
_ Post [daily!!!] your advancements on the blog and record them in your logbook
_ Be ready to present your research

04.05 [tbc – it’s on a Saturday]
3rd [extra] Seminar – Assemblage evaluation
_ Presentation of the different proposal from each group
_ Evaluation and discussion of the proposal
_ Definition and refinement of a final structure for each group

// Week 3
06.05 or 07.05 [tbc]
4th Seminar – Assembly and refinement
_ Discussion on the final design
_ Definition of the locations for the final assemblages
_ Refinement of the digital diagrams
_ Setting up the prototyping process

Tasks to be carried out by each group over the week:
_ Prototype all the components of your final structure
_ Prepare connection to walls/ceilings for your structure
_ Set up a time lapse to record the assembly process
_ Assemble your structure
_ Post [daily!!!] drawings and pictures with your advancements on the blog and record them in your logbook
_ Refine small details and prepare for the exhibition
